Connecting Arizona

OUR NETWORK

Arizona's tri universities (ASU, NAU, and UA) have invested over $1.6 million in equipment to establish the initial Sun Corridor Network of 10 Gbps, which was launched in August 2013. The network uses leased fiber-optic cables from both Internet2 and Century Link to connect three POP (Point of Presence) sites: Tucson, Flagstaff and Phoenix. The network is designed to be highly resilient with redundant hardware and geographically diverse paths as well as carrier diversity.

Recent investments have increased the speed of the Sun Corridor Network’s bandwidth to an exciting 100 Gbps with the upgrade of nodes in Phoenix and Tucson. These nodes connect to Internet2’s Innovation Platform, a combination of new technologies and services that provide leading edge, end-to-end architecture, and a unique set of capabilities at the national, regional, and campus level to create an environment for innovation in research and education.

How Fast?

At 100 Gbps, this speed has the potential to create many opportunities for Arizona. For example:

- Data equivalent to 80 million file cabinets filled with text that can be transferred daily - Every one of Arizona's approximately 1 million enrolled K-12 students could download an eBook simultaneously in just over two minutes - 300,000 X-rays can be transmitted in just one minute - 8.5 million electronic medical records can be transmitted in one minute - Smartphone data can be sent at 50,000 time faster than current average speed

The Sun Corridor Network currently operates 3 Point-of-Presence (POP) locations.

Flagstaff - 1301 S. Knoles Dr, Flagstaff, AZ 86011

Phoenix - 120 E. Van Buren St., Phoenix, AZ 85004

Tucson - 1077 North Highland Ave, Tucson, Arizona 85721
